July 19, 2025, Ndop, Ngo-Ketunjia State, Northern Ambazonia. Cameroon Occupation Forces kidnapped seven unarmed civilians in Bamessing, including the kidnapping of two infants aged two and three months. The victims, among them 68-year-old Mrs. Woh Serah and 38-year-old Julius Weyang, were among those detained at the Gendarmerie Brigade in Ndop, then transferred on July 15 to a Gendarmerie Brigade in Bamenda. None have been formally charged or presented before the State Counsel, in blatant violation of due process.
The kidnapping of two infants aged two and three months old by the Cameroon armed forces is a shocking act of cruelty and a direct violation of International Humanitarian Law. The continued detention of these babies, without any legal justification, reflects a grave abuse of power and a breach of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Torture and Coerced False Confessions
During detention in Ndop, Mrs. Serah and Mr. Weyang were brutally tortured with iron objects. Gendarmes aimed to force them into falsely confessing possession of weapons allegedly linked to the Ambazonia Army. This treatment, carried out in the presence of civilians, possibly including the kidnapped infants aged two and three months old, constitutes torture under the Convention Against Torture and amounts to a war crime.
Medical Neglect and Endangerment of Infants
Following the torture, Mr. Weyang lost consciousness on July 11 and was taken to the hospital. Mrs. Serah followed a day later. Although doctors recommended both be admitted, the Brigade Commander refused. Despite the presence of two kidnapped infants aged two and three months old, no medical care or protective measures were offered, compounding the human rights violations.
International Law Violated and Justice Demanded
The arbitrary arrest, torture, and medical neglect of civilians particularly the repeated kidnapping of two infants aged two and three months old are gross violations of the Geneva Conventions, ICCPR, and UN Child Rights Conventions.
We call for the immediate, unconditional release of all detainees and urge International bodies to investigate and hold Cameroonian occupation forces accountable for these War Crimes.
