The people of Kumba live in a state of terror, trapped between armed gangs and corrupt Cameroon occupation officers who are meant to protect them. Crime and terrorism have surged, with officers releasing captured criminals shortly after arrest. This creates a dangerous atmosphere, as justice is obstructed by those sworn to uphold it. Victims and bystanders alike suffer in silence, knowing that complaints rarely reach the top command.

Proof of Criminal Collaboration Shared

Evidence of collusion includes text exchanges between criminals and security officers negotiating the division of extorted funds. In these conversations, they argue over percentages: 20% from each ransom collected, such as 2,000 FCFA from 10,000 FCFA, or 300,000 FCFA from 1.5 million FCFA. These exchanges demonstrate that the occupation forces are profiting from the suffering of Ambazonian civilians.

A Violation of International Laws and Human Rights

These acts constitute war crimes under International Law. The Geneva Conventions prohibit targeting civilians or profiting from their suffering during armed conflict. By engaging in abductions and shielding criminals, Cameroon’s occupation forces violate the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which guarantees liberty, security, and protection from arbitrary detention. Their actions also breach the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

Cameroon’s Actions Undermine Rule of Law

The systemic corruption within Cameroon’s occupation forces in Ambazonia undermines the rule of law and fuels impunity. As war crimes and human rights violations mount, international organizations and human rights defenders must act urgently to investigate and hold the perpetrators accountable.
